Does anyone else think it’s slightly demeaning to drug test welfare recipients?
I know many people think that poverty puts one at an increased risk of drug use, but that’s only true to a certain extend. Oftentimes, it’s drug use that puts one at an increased risk of poverty.
Regardless, not every poor person is a druggie, and it’s just demeaning to suggest it. And I believe that’s precisely what Gov. Scott is doing by proposing mandatory drug testing.
You also have to wonder if Gov. Scott thinks drug users shouldn’t be helped. Is he saying that a drug user, even if it was one time, should starve, live in the dark, or what? What kind of a man is he?
The clip was seven minutes long and it addressed more than the issue I have ranted about, but I came from a poor family. We didn’t have a lot of money, and though we were never on welfare, we should have been. And none of us ever did drugs.
Today, I have money, a nice house, and a nice family. It’s easy to forget where I came from. But I don’t. And that’s why when I heard that, I was instantly pissed off.
I disagree with Rachel Maddow on most every issue, but I definitely respect her intelligence. And parts of that little segment are hard to disagree with, to be honest. I’ve already expressed my opinions regarding that idiot in Florida.
But I’m from Michigan and voted for Governor Snyder, and I’m none too happy about the quasi-dictatorship he has going. Seriously, unseating elected officials because you have, perhaps on a whim, declared a financial crisis? Are you serious?
OK, I’m dying to ask this then. Why did you vote for him? In your eyes, was he the lesser evil of the two? Or, did he pull the old bait and switch like Jon Stewart’s clip highlights?
Because, for one, I don’t recall that particular proposal being mentioned during the campaign. At that time, I liked him; I thought he was the best man for the job. I would never vote for Virgil Bernero, the angry mayor. He’s a jack-ass. During the debates, all he did was decry Snyder for being rich and successful, as if that’s a bad thing.
Thanks for sharing that clip lb. It finally answered my question about the types of conservatism. They campaign on the Libertarian one, but once in office switch to the Authoritarian kind. I didn’t know what to call it. Authoritarian is perfect. They are definitely not the Libertarian kind.

That dude wouldn’t have received my vote. No way.

More than demeaning. It would be very creepy if he got that to pass.

Rachel Maddow had a segment on this very thing too. It was pretty compelling. See it here

Of course that wouldn’t be anywhere near his campaign. No one would go for that.
