I know I haven’t posted in a while. I want to wish you all a very Happy 2014! I am so glad 2013 is over.
Politically, Ted Cruz’s $24B shutdown was absolutely ridiculous. He hurt a lot of people – from government employees to businesses that have government contracts. Most of all, he tried to govern by extortion. I have no idea where in the Constitution that says that’s OK. And he still had the balls to say he would do it again. Certifiably insane. I am really glad Obama didn’t cave. I can’t believe people actually blame him for the shutdown. Really?
The Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”). What a nightmare rollout. Thing is, the states had great websites where people could enroll. CoveredCA here was/is awesome. I am really glad that people have healthcare. No one should go bankrupt because they got sick – especially in a country as rich as ours.
A friend of my sister’s has testicular cancer. He didn’t have insurance, so his parents maxed out their credit cards to pay for his surgery. To even start chemo, they held poker tournaments and asked for online donations. That is wrong on so many levels. I’m glad that he now has access to healthcare. Basically, anyone who wants to go back to the days where insurance companies can deny coverage or limit treatment of cancer patients are heartless, insensitive douchebags. I know. Tell me how you really feel. Haha.
I am so glad that the House and Senate passed a bipartisan budget. Hallelujah! Of course, those more Left and Right aren’t too happy with it. It’s called compromise. In doing so, we don’t get everything we want.
Anyway, I hope 2014 goes much more smoothly, and the Tea Party doesn’t scream like boiling tea kettles. Dream on, right? No one screams better or louder than the Tea Party.
I can’t believe that the midterm elections are this year. Time flies. It’s going to be critical to at least keep the Democratic majority in the Senate. The House would be nice too, but I don’t think it will happen. Who knows? Stranger things have happened.
It’s exciting that there are hints that Hillary may run in 2016. The first woman President! I love the sound of that.
Well, I hope 2014 is a stellar year for you all. Or be as good as or suck less than 2013. One can hope. Be blessed!

1. Ted Cruz is an idiot. He’s too extreme and therefore not a conservative in my mind.
2. ObamaCare is just a bad law. Forget the roll-out, it’s just a nightmare of a law. Not even a glamorous roll-out would change that immutable fact.
3. I’m sorry to hear about your the governor of South Carolina. friend and I’m happy he now has insurance. However, there are far better ways to fill the void. ObamaCare isn’t the answer, in my view, sbecause the negative far outweighs the benefit. That isn’t to say we should ignore the benefit it has to individual lives; we just need to find a way to fill that void while limiting damage to the rest of the economy. ss
4. Those on the hard right and left who refuse to compromise need to be booted out in 2014. There’s a place for ideological schisms, but the country must come first. The country can’t funsction when, ya know, it’s not functioning.
5. I like the idea of the Tea Party, but the representation of it we’ve seen in the House? Terrible. They should all go.
the governor of South Carolina.
6. I hope the Tea Party kooks are replaced with moderate Republicans. And I hope Democrats lose every election. ๐
7. Wouldn’t mind seeing a woman president but I’m not sure Hillary would be my first choice. I like Nikki Haley.
8. I hope 2014 is a great year for you, too.

Okay, that whole “governor of South Carolina” line in the third bullet. Um, no idea how that happened. I don’t have e-tourettes, I promise. I meant to say, “I”m sorry to hear about your friend…” Ugh.

All good, T. By the way, I think it’s e-ADD. ๐

1. Glad you agree about Ted Cruz.
2. Obamacare is on the path to single-payer.
3. Sorry. The fact that he has insurance now is huge. And huge for others who now can get insurance because they were previously denied (preexisting conditions). And huge that all of this is subsidized so that people who need insurance can get it.
4. Thank you – the country must come first.
5. Yes. All of them.
6. OK, maybe Moderate Republicans, but it is on a case-by-case basis. Naaah. Replace them with Democrats. ๐ I hope Republicans lose every election. ๐
7. Nikki Haley? Ugh. My stomach just turned.
8. Likewise, T. Onward and upward! ๐

Very happy to hear from you again! Yes, I didn’t like 2013 much, either. But we got Obamacare and I am grateful for that. Let’s not let the Repubs and TPs wreck it for the millions who need it.
January 4th, 2014 at 11:21 AM
Yay! I’m praying that the GOP and TP don’t wreck it. ๐
January 18th, 2014 at 3:33 PM
Happy??? I gag just typing that word in a non-sarcastic context.
2013 was yet another ultra-shitty year and 2014 has no prospect of getting any better. Odds are strong things will only get worse in 2014
1) Ted Cruze needs a cruise missile to the face. Have I yet, on behalf of all Canuckistan, apologized for unleashing him on you?
By the way, how can this Canadian born douche declare for President? My understanding is that you’ve got to be born in America. Stupid rule, but still. If Teabaggers can try to kick Obama out of office for being born in Kenya, how can they support Cruz for Prez? Oh, yeah. I forgot.
2) Celebrating Obamacare is like celebrating being declared Ms Congeniality. Sure, it gives people access to the health care that they were supposed to be getting all along and were increasingly being denied. However, the health care it accesses is still private-for-profit and, as such, is vastly over-priced. Human health is not the top priority. Obamacare does nothing to change this or even address drug costs.
With a Democrat in the White House, Democratic majorities in both Senate & the House, this 90’s Republican plan was the “best” they could do??? At this rate, single payer is only about 3 centuries away.
3) It’s a truly sad commentary that such a formerly great nation goes years without being able to pass a budget. The place is so paralyzed by idiocy and corruption that being able to do anything -even something shitty- is cause for “celebration”.
The truth is that the Surface State is a circus designed to distract us with bullshit controversies and partisan battles when the Deep State, those that wield the REAL power, chug along completely unhindered. That’s why Congressional gridlock is not just permissible, but favoured. Democracy only hinders the powerful. The less of it, the better.
4) Fuck the mid-terms! A complete waste of billions that will change nothing but the bottom lines of worthless media moguls. And, in a similar vein, fuck 2016!
A perpetual election machine has been created so that billionaires can purchase (non) outcomes and perpetuate their control over the system. In return, we get some more 2nd rate, cliche filled, entertainment that poses as something of importance.
5) Where the fuck have you been, Spinny? I expect more from you in 2014 too. I want to see more of your ass around here ๐
February 6th, 2014 at 11:03 PM
Aloha Spinny! I hope you had a good New Year. All the best!
