Spinny Fell off the Wagon

Instead of the Yahoo! Comments section, I’ve been on a Facebook Comments bender. The “Being Liberal” page is infiltrated by Conservatives who irritate the crap out of me. Come on. The page is called, “Being Liberal.” They come on there and regurgitate whatever Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin said as a way to “prove” how stupid Liberals are. I usually tell them to take the condescension and shove it because they’re on our turf.

*sigh* When I first “Liked” the page, I enjoyed reading the comments of like-minded Liberals. The Conservatives just ruin it for me with their Liberal-bashing. I should stay in the blog world, but I was lured back into Lucifer’s lair.

The hot topics have been the Fiscal Cliff and the fiasco that is Michigan’s Right to Work Law. We’re inching toward the Fiscal Cliff, and I am praying that Obama doesn’t cave. I think he won’t because he is now emboldened with the win and the fact that there are no more political consequences for him. Before he agrees to any spending cuts, generating revenue via increasing taxes for the wealthy better be carved in stone and painted with the blood of dead plutocrats.

I believe that spending cuts are necessary. But so are those tax increases. If you’re broke, you can cut your expenses to the bone. To actually stop being perpetually broke, you need to earn more money. Same thing here. It’s not all about spending cuts or taxes. It’s both. However, I personally don’t trust the GOP farther than I can throw them, so Obama should take the carved in stone/blood suggestion above.

The fight didn’t end on election day, as we have seen in that disastrous Right to Work Law. Let’s see. You can choose not to be in a union, but still get the benefits of the same pay as a union worker and health benefits. You just don’t have to pay dues. Hmm. And Conservatives call us the freeloaders? Like I said in the comments section:

God forbid workers should have a living wage and good benefits. I swear to God the way a lot Conservatives are talking, they won’t be happy until people are indentured servants to the almighty job creators.

I need to be back here in blog world. There are posts of substance here – both sides. Those comments sections do nothing but make my blood pressure rise. My sister asked at lunch on Saturday, “Do we have to ban you from another site?” Heh. Looks like it. I’ll try and cut down. I promise!

The Enigmatic “Undecideds” of the Election

Lobotero at Opus Civis cracked me up with his post on the final debate: The Poka in Boca – Prez Debate #3. His last paragraph made me think – after I stopped laughing:

Once again, it was the optics that made your decision on who won……..and of course they, meaning the media, has assembled “undecideds”…..and once again it was all theater….if there are any “undecideds” at this point then them are just looking for some attention….but if they are truly “undecided” then just make sure that they have a coin in their pocket on election……. and for God sake….Do NOT ask them if they prefer paper or plastic!

I don’t think there are “undecideds” left. I think those who intend to vote already have their choice. Or write-in. 😉 @ the Ron Paul followers or those so disgusted with and/or cynical about politics that they’ll write-in “Snoopy.”

The media mentions these “undecideds,” though. I don’t know any. The ones I know – family, friends, coworkers – have already made up their minds. Mama already voted for Romney, via absentee ballot. I’m sure Papa will vote for Romney as well -probably on Election Day. My sister, a Moderate, will vote for Obama. Those on Facebook…some fiercely support Obama. Some support Romney with equal ferocity. The rest?

The rest I know online and in real life don’t give a flying Fig Newton about politics. Hell, I don’t know if they’ll even vote. If they do, I’m sure they know who they want by now. They just don’t care enough about politics to discuss it.

Thoughts? Do you know any “undecideds?”

Another Manson in the News

Providing Necessary Evil: Jules Manson Calls for Assassination of Obama and His ‘Monkey Children’

Move over Charles. There’s a new psycho in town. Although, there is a striking resemblance.

The author says that he’s a “necessary” evil? He states:

“Succinctly, people like Jules Manson are necessary as a check to existing systems, as examples of contrast to appropriate behavior.”

Nope. There are already so many racist, ignorant people out there. This one isn’t even the pick of the litter. He isn’t even close to being necessary.

That said, he’s here, spewing his hatred. The First Amendment gives him the right to do so. So let’s look at what he’s said:

“Assassinate the f—– n—– and his monkey children.”

then…

I wrote the most vile and hateful words to express my condemnation for him doing this to the American people. It was horrible. I deeply regret it and I’m deeply shamed by it. I cannot express how much I wish I had not done that.

then…

After much consideration, I have decided to throw my hat in the ring for California’s 28th State Senate district for the 2012 elections. I intend on representing the Democratic Party with due dignity, and loyalty for my campaign contributors which will happen to be public-sector labor unions and other collective bargaining institutions that help keep the poor man down and dependent on government.

Yup. That’s the beauty of the First Amendment. The more you exercise it, the more you reveal about yourself. He basically revealed that he’s crazy.

The racist, ignorant crap doesn’t surprise me. I’ve always thought there are still a lot of people who can’t accept that there is a black man in the White House. As a President, he’s encountered things that I believe wouldn’t have happened to a white president. Representative Joe Wilson yells “You Lie!” in the middle of Obama’s State of the Union Address. An Orange County Representative Marilyn Davenport sends an e-mail with an image of Obama superimposed on to a chimpanzee. There are many more examples, but you get the picture.

So nope. We don’t “need” people like Manson. Jules, like Charles (they must be related), is just a piece of crap disguised as a crazy, ignorant human being.

Spincredible Scribbles™ – I’m Post Pimping

Three 6 Mafia is right. It really is hard out here for a (post) pimp. There are so many brilliant bloggers out there. It’s hard to choose which posts I really liked. If I listed them all, this post would be neverending.

Anyway, this has been the week from hell, and I’m spent. Please enjoy some really awesome posts I’ve read lately. In no particular order:

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

The Wisconsin Recall Elections: A Glimpse into the Future?

In Final Wisconsin Recall, Signs of a National Tea Party Backlash?

Last week, Republicans fought to keep 6 of their seats. They lost 2. Tonight Democrats fought to keep 2 of their seats. They succeeded at keeping them both. Wisconsin had nine recall elections.  I’m sure they’re super tired of these elections, but it could be a glimpse into 2012.

If both Democrats prevail, however, the election could offer further evidence that the country’s broad political middle is swinging back left after the tea party triumphs of last November…Fundamentally, Wisconsin is a purple state – neither red nor blue – “and that makes it important,” says John McAdams, a political scientist at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Both Democrats kept their seats. The Republicans still have the majority, but they would be more “comfortable”  if they picked up one more.  Apparently, Wisconsites aren’t making them comfortable.

Is this a great sign for Democrats in 2012? It’s too early.  There is a lot more time for both sides to mess up (and do well, to be fair) in voters eyes.

For an election outcome I would like, Obama and other Democrats need to step it up.  And the GOP needs to keep making mistakes.  Like letting the fringe of their party take over.

The results of the Wisconsin recall effort tell me one thing. No one is happy politically. Just like the other 49 states.

Good Morning Asia! Sorry Your Markets Tanked

Asian Stock Markets Sink after US Credit Downgrade

What a lovely bit of news I ran into while surfing and watching the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

“It’s not Armaggedon, but it feels like it,” said Hong Kong-based analyst Francis Lun, adding that he foresees the territory’s Hang Seng index to sink below 19,000 — a decline of a further 5 percent — before making any kind of comeback.

Um, sorry about that.  Our country was more interested in political theater. If we didn’t make such a big deal about the debt ceiling, global markets wouldn’t be reacting like this. Thanks Tea Party for holding it hostage to push your agenda. Thanks President Obama for not invoking the 14th amendment the minute they pulled this crap.

I’m going back to the Real Housewives. Entertain me, Joysey girls. Bread and circuses to keep my mind off of the empire burning, baby.  Bread and circuses.

A Debt Ceiling Deal? Don’t Break out the Moët Yet.

White House, Congressional Leaders Reach Debt Deal

The “leaders” – Boehner, McConnell, and Reid told Obama they have a deal. Of course, Obama jumps up and down and tells the world, “We have a deal!” And the Asian Markets jump up and down too. The Nikkei and Hang Seng opened strong on the news. Hell, I even got excited for a second.

Is this really our cue to cheer? It still has to pass Congress. So basically, no. Or not yet. Michelle Bachmann already says she’s going to vote no. I don’t understand why the hell not? This deal is all cuts, no revenue. Nancy Pelosi says she has to look it over with her caucus first. I understand why. This deal is all cuts, no revenue.

There is a deal, but in no way is it done. The Tea Party wants way more cuts. The Democrats would like to see some revenue too. But all that shouldn’t be tied to the debt ceiling.

The whole point is that we can’t default on our obligations. We have to raise that debt ceiling. It’s not about being able to spend more, but pay for the stuff we already bought. The Tea Party doesn’t see it like that. They see it as an opportunity to use it as leverage to get what they want. I guess that’s one way to do it. Being ready to slit your country’s throat to get your way.

So, when should we break out the champagne? August 3. Either to celebrate or cry into our flutes.

“Closing Time” in Afghanistan

Obama’s Afghanistan Plan Criticized by Dems, GOP

Nobody’s happy with his plan. Does that surprise me? No. The GOP thinks he’s drawing down too fast. The Democrats think it’s too slow. Of course, I’m with the “too slow” crowd. By next summer, the number of troops returning will be about the same number as the surge. So we’ll be going back to roughly the numbers we had before Obama took office? I don’t see that as a real withdrawal. 60K by next summer would have been perfect because it would include the troops added plus the ones that were already there.

Republicans think we risk losing whatever gains we made because we’re withdrawing too fast. Questions. How long are we going to hold their hand? Why are we training them? So we can get them to protect themselves, right? At some point, we’re going to have to let go. And it’s not like every soldier is coming home tomorrow (my dream). They’re leaving in stages.

Since it’s been almost 10 years, it’s really time to move on. Hell, even al-Qaeda moved on…to Yemen. Osama bin Laden moved on to the 7th level of Hades thanks to some Navy Seals. We can get out of the business of rebuilding other countries and start rebuilding ours.

While I’m not too happy with how long this process will take, at least we’re starting it.

The last line in Semisonic’s song Closing Time is…

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.”
