Santorum Sweeps the South and Everyone Yawns

Well, except for Newt Gingrich. He’s probably crying into his beer now. Except for Georgia, he couldn’t take the Deep South? Yikes. It’s pretty much game over for Gingrich. He may vow to keep going

I would have been shocked if Mittens won even one Southern state. I really do think it’s the Mormon thing with that region of the country. A lot of Evangelical Christians don’t see Mormons as Christians. Some even view the LDS church as a cult. Subsequently, they won’t vote for the nomination of a guy who is part of a “cult.”

Enter Santorum. Hardcore social conservative. Anti-abortion even in the cases of rape and incest. Against gay marriage. Doesn’t believe in the total separation of church and state. Music to the ears of an Evangelica Christian Conservative from MS or AL. Santorum, by just being himself, was the pied piper that led these Southern Christian voters to the polls for him. I don’t think a lot of them thought twice…he sang their song.

What I found funny was how he said, “We’re going to win this nomination before the convention.” Aww. Delusional – his chance comes from a brokered convention. But let’s not rain on his parade. Enjoy your day under the Southern sun, Santorum. Congratulations!

Yes, he’s George, Jr. on steroids

Yep …. Santorum gets two popular vote wins on a day when he has a net gain in delegates of handful. Meanwhile, he’s more than 2x behind Romney.

Feb-Mar was a predictable rough stretch for Romney … and it is almost over. He survived, and now he’s off to more friendly states.

Santorum will most likely take Louisiana and then on to Illinois and if he can impress the Southern part of the state he can turn it into a good battle…

What’s weird – is most of the time Evangelical Protestant “Christians” tend to think the Catholic Church is a cult who worships Mary. But in this election – they seem to ignore the fact his religious leadership comes from a source the normally would not accept as legitimate – since he is – as you say “singing their song”.

Maddening! I’m taking Frank’s advice and “Waiting this out” – but the idea that Santorum could get anywhere near real power gives me hives.

It is weird. I’ve heard that about their views on Catholicism. I thinnk, though, that Catholicism is a lot more tolerable for them than LDS. And essentially, it comes down to those social issues for the Evangelicals. Romney flip flops too much for them.

Wait it out, relax, and take some Benadryl. 🙂 He appeals to a sliver of voters.

I keep thinking of sanitorium…. a medical facility for long-term illness. Seems to fit just what the Republican Party needs right now.
