Rush Limbaugh: The Real Slut Apologizes

“For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke…My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.”

Hmm. When you call a woman a slut, that’s pretty damn personal. Anyway, this apology is as real as a Canal Street Birkin. He only did so because his sponsors were suspending their advertising. ProFlowers, Quicken Loans, Sleep Train, Sleep Number, Citrix Systems Inc., Carbonite and LegalZoom pulled their advertising dollars. Customers have complained about sponsoring Rush. They listened. Some have stopped advertising temporarily, others permanently, like Carbonite. The CEO, David Friend, had this to say:

“No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady. Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse.”

Good for him. Even though Rush has so many listeners, Carbonite took their money and walked away.

Sometimes you have to teach the mouthy slut a lesson…

His bosses don’t seem to think it will cost them to dearly. Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks Inc. who hosts Limbaugh’s program gave a response to this incident that shows no comprehension of how bad this really was.

“The contraception debate is one that sparks strong emotion and opinions on both sides of the issue,” Premiere Networks said in a statement emailed Sunday by spokeswoman Rachel Nelson. “We respect the right of Mr. Limbaugh, as well as the rights of those who disagree with him, to express those opinions.”

Do they think this an old SNL skit where Dan Aykroyd’s character would call Jane Curtain’s character an “ignorant slut”?

    • Spinny Liberal

I wonder how long the sponsors will stay away. Because he has so many listeners, I think Clear Channel isn’t that worried? I don’t know. People are mighty pissed and rightly so.

  • aFrankAngle

    1. Rush is pathetic, and has always been.

    2. Rush is about making money.

    3. He wasn’t attempting humor as he carefully chose his words.

    4. The day after the comments, he was standing on his words.

    5. In the end, he only “apologized” after some sponsors pulled their money.

  • littlebangtheory

Rush’s apology was sincere, as surely as I’m 6’4.

  • beaglezmom

It’s not only not sincere – it’s also a continued slam. When you read the statement – he is essentially saying “Well, I didn’t mean to single out one young woman and call her a slut. I wanted to call all women who use birth control sluts, but used unwise words and singled her out. My advertisers are leaving – and for THAT I am sorry”.

Besides – he did worse than insult her – he used her to create attention to put more money in his fat pocket. That’s worse.

And, as a reflection on our insane political/corporate reality — Rush makes money for Clear Channel. Clear Channel is owned by the Bain Corporation. So every time Rush says something “provocative” (re: insanely jerky) – Mitt Romney makes money.

AOL has suspended advertising with Limbaugh today. Here was my comment to AOL:

“Let’s cut to the chase. Rush Limbaugh’s commentary insulted every woman who uses contraception, whether for birth control or for medical needs. Those women are your customers. And you pay that foul bag of lies and distortions to insult your customers. Are you so morally corrupt that you’ll continue that policy of supporting Limbaugh, especially when you know this latest assault he made against innocent people is simply one of a long line? You’re so creatively bankrupt that you can’t find better people and better shows to sponsor? Really?”

As for Clear Channel, I suspect they’re very nervous about now at the possibility of losing their cash cow potty-mouth drug-addict Viagra-using bigoted hatemonger. But then they live in the same moral and ethical sewer that the fat man lives and craps in. And apparently the same sewer that Mitt Romney has no qualms about dipping a toe in, all the way up to his fancy religious underwear.

  • lobotero

Sorry that was NOT an apology……that was a typical weasel way out. Ever notice that the people that would bomb Iran are the same people that are scared to death of Rush?

  • Don in Massachusetts

When he was on Monday Night Football, he made a bigoted remark about Donovan McNabb, and he has done it with other black people. Its the same with the way he treats women, with his put downs of them, The man is walking-talking bag of week old dog shit.

Also, its ok for him to put different people in walks of life, but poke fun at him, and he goes fucking ballistic…

    • Spinny Liberal

Yes!! It’s that whole “he can dish it out but can’t take it.” Ugh.

    • Kini

Hey Don! He said McNabb was over rated, which he is. How is that bigoted man? Get your facts straight dude, if you even are a dude.

Did you know that the Reverend Ken Hutcherson, a former American football linebacker in the National Football League who is now the pastor of the Antioch Bible Church in Kirkland, Washington, where he has been since 1985. His nickname from his NFL days is “The Hutch”, married Rush and his lovey wife Kathryn?

Do you know who Mr. Bo Snerdley is? Don?

I thought you didn’t! You’re just another wagging tongue.
The only bigot here is a little man in Massachusetts with a potty mouth.

  • Kini

I’m not worried, Rush’s sponsor’s will be back once the smoke clears.

Oh By the By, did ya’ll know that 31 year old promiscuous vixen that claims people she knows that spends thousands for birth control could have gotten their fix down at the local Target for only $9 a month? Did ya’ll know they could have gotten birth control for free at Planned ParentMurderhood, and at some government agencies?

Did ya’ll know she wants the government to pay for gender reassignment?
    http://mrctv.org/blog/sandra-fluke-gender-reassignment-and-health-insurance
She’s against discrimination, but she doesn’t mind reaching into my pockets to take my money to pay for someone’s decision to either stand or squat on the toilet.

But since we’re on the subject of asking people to pay for things, I want you all to pay for my Rush podcasts downloads! How about that for fairness!!! 😆

Hey ya’ll wanna see some more misogynous rants!!!

    • Spinny Liberal

Hmmm. The Right wants to defund Planned Parenthood, but you’re offering it as an alternative for women wanting birth control? Sure generics can be $9 or even less. The branded ones like Yaz, the kind my partner takes, is $100/month. And, yes, she is a lesbian but takes birth control to regulate her cycle because she has PCOS. Birth control has other uses- not just pregnancy prevention for “promiscuous vixens.”

      • Kini

Yes! We do want to defund Planned ParentMurderhood!!!
Why should we pay our tax dollars for it?

Spinny! You know we Promote life!
Not Death! Please understand! We want life!

What your lifestyle is about is none of our business. How you choose to live your lifestyle, is none of our business.

Do not expect us to pay for your lifestyle, and its consequences! Those are your choices, not ours. I would not expect you to pay for our lifestyle choices!

We have our own lifestyle, with our own partners, with our own heath issues to deal with. I have written extensively about our about issues on my blog. We have wrestled with them to near death. That’s not your responsibly!

I do not expect you to either pay, fund, or tax ourselves or anyone else, to insure our lifestyle consequences, our consciences, or our life decisions.

It’s not a one way street. Live Life To The Fullest!
That’s all we can ask for, my friend! 🙂

      • Spinny Liberal

I understand where you’re coming from. Contraception shouldn’t be tax payer subsidized, funded, etc. However, you are obviously very pro-life. Wouldn’t contraception be a good way to prevent an unwanted pregnancy and the possible subsequent abortion?

      • Kini

Well, Yes Spinny! No one is preventing either women or men from Contraception, it is already available and for free! Do you want to pay for it? Do you want your tax dollars paying for it? That is the question! Shouldn’t you be blogging about it? I am!

      • Spinny Liberal

If it’s going to prevent unwanted pregnancy, I’m OK with it.

      • Kini

Yes, contraception would be a way to prevent unwanted pregnancies. No one is denying that. Just don’t use my tax dollars to pay for it. Teach abstinence! let me know when you stop laughing 🙄

      • Spinny Liberal

Not laughing. Abstinence can be part of comprehensive sexual education.

  • Ric

I watched the video of Limbo’s ESPN todo from 2003. I think the problem is not what he said that day, which was pretty much innocuous and was directed at the media, but instead that Limbo paid a price for his years of ugliness. When the fat man says ‘black man’ or ‘black’ what the world hears is ‘nigger’. When he says woman or girl, what the world hears is ‘slut’. That’s the bed he’s made for himself by making his living outside the bounds of intelligent and civilized discussion. I’m not defending him by any means. He is a bottom-dwelling potty-mouth drug-addict Viagra-using bigoted hatemongering piece of scum. But he turned himself into that, and it’s what we expect from him. Give him a bath, dress him up in clean clothes, and put him in a room with decent people and everyone will back away from the sudden stench that came in with him.

    • Spinny Liberal

It didn’t hurt that much as he has millions of listeners. It’s nice to show him once in a while that what you say has consequences. But under the First Amendment, he has every right to be a repugnant jackass.

      • Kini

And what of the others like Bill Maher that have said worse, against women both liberal and conservative? Do you defend them also? I could say vulgar names also, but I choose not to. I think you do also. We may not be wired correctly, but I respect your opinion. Thanks for respecting mine! 😆

      • Spinny Liberal

Maher is a comedian. That said, I do not like when any of them say vulgar things toward women.

  • pbenjay

Cash cow is too kind, pig is how I have always referred to him (Rush).
