The Rachel Maddow Show: Betty Ford, Champion on Women’s Rights

I didn’t know much about the former first lady – except for her treatment center. I learned a lot more about her very full and inspirational life in this clip. Enjoy! 🙂

She was indeed a wonderful lady. She was a thorn in the side of ultra-conservatives within her Party, especially those within the religious right.

Thanks for posting this. I never paid much attention to Mrs. Ford. Now I wish I had. I attended a lecture in college when Gerald Ford spoke, but I was all, meh. Maybe he was the last Republican considering the freak show carnival on stage now.

It took a lot of balls to sleep next to the figurehead of the R party whilst he parked his ass in the oval office..and say publicly she was pro-choice and Pro-ERA amendment. She had it in spades! I am old enough to remember those times and even when Gerald Ford attracted my wrath..it never spilled over to his wonderful wife.

I have always admired and respected that wonderful woman..and I don’t say that about ANYONE in that has ties to the GOP. But the point is..she was apolitical. She just cared. And to go through SO much that you have a breakdown of sorts and start drinking like a fish..then go public about it.. not to mention the cancer..damn..just..damn what a woman!.

I remember a great pic of her dancing on one of the dining tables in the West Wing..that was Bette..she made lemonade out of all those fucking lemons life handed her. Then she sold the lemonade and used it to do good things for people who needed just a little help. Bless you Bettie Ford..bless you sweet woman for being here and showing us that no matter how fucked up it gets..you can come out the other side w/a smile on your face and dancing on the tables. 😉

I absolutely loved this Dusty. Nice tribute!

Her time in the spotlight happened to coincide with a troubling time in my own life..so I really drew a lot of strength from her.

Might sound a little sappy coming from hells most vocal bitch..but it is what it is..a tribute to a great woman that never really got her due as she didn’t like the spotlight. She was humble.

Now, Nan Reagan..that ole bag can take a long walk on a very short pier. 😉
