Carey ‘Embarrassed’ over Gadhafi-linked Concert
Yikes. WikiLeaks is so good at creating PR nightmares. Apparently, Qathafi and his crew like Hip Hop. So much so that Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, Usher, Nelly Furtado, and 50 Cent were paid to perform at their parties. Nelly Furtado was the first to donate the fee paid ($1M) after she heard the news.
Mariah Carey issued one of the best apologies I have read from a stumbling celebrity:
“I was naïve and unaware of who I was booked to perform for. I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess,” the 40-year-old singer said. “Going forward, this is a lesson for all artists to learn from. We need to be more aware and take more responsibility regardless of who books our shows. Ultimately, we as artists are to be held accountable.”
Class act. I hope Christina Aguilera read it to learn how it’s done. I had the pleasure of listening to Mariah Carey sing her very first concert. She was so nervous, which was endearing. I dig her, and some of her tunes are catchy.
These Hip Hop artists’ songs, with their poignant lyrics, are just so apropos. Who knew just how close their Libyan ties were?
- Mariah Carey……….”Slipping Away”
- Beyoncé ……….”Irreplaceable”
- 50 Cent………..”Nobody Likes Me”
- Usher……….”Caught Up”
- Nelly Furtado…………”I Will Make You Cry”
You’re slipping right out of my grasp
And you’re fading fast it seems
Don’t you ever think for a second get to thinking you’re irreplaceable
…I can have another you in a minute
Look I ain’t going nowhere, so get used to me
OGs look at me an’ see I’m what they used to be
I never thought I’d be the one breaking down
…But I was so sure it wouldn’t happen to me
This is not political
It’s just that I demand attention when I walk into a room
